My Grandson loves frogs and recently he’s learning about his animals and wanted several different animals made.
So we decided he would tell me what he wanted. He wanted a crochet frog with Long legs.
I actually already have 2 FREE Frog crochet patterns that are FREE on my website.
The first one is asuper simple frog crochet pattern, that I published years ago that is available on my website HERE
And the second Free Frog Pattern is actually a Frog Dooorstop I made for a friend one year and filled with a small bag of sand to help with the weight needed to keep a door open.
And the FROG DOORSTOP Crochet Pattern can be found HERE– ps The EYES of this Frog and how they are constructed is a favorite by crocheters for the frog’s eyes used for making a FROG Bucket Hat!
But her was adamant he wanted a smaller long-legged frog that he could put into his pocket. so his wish is my command and off I set to come up with something.
I find if I make something and post a picture of it someone always asks for the pattern. Id only jotted down roughly how I made it and it’s been on my to-do-list for a long time (He is nearly 4 NOW but he has loved this little frog (who has been washed and replaced many times)
Anyway, I have now written out this easy step-by-step crochet pattern for you to make the leggy frog.
START HERE. (Please read through AL the notes for a successful leggy frog)
Is this Frog pattern beginner-friendly?
I say YES it is an incredibly easy and quick crochet project, I love to crochet these when I am bored as a little fill-in, as I KNOW these sell faster than I can make them in summer and at craft fairs.
To crochet the Frog You will need some understanding of –
- working in the round without joining
- placing a marker at the beginning of rounds
- working a 4 double crochet together ALL worked into the SAME space – sounds hard but it’s actually quite easy. Just work the double crochet to ONE step before finishing collecting the loops onto your hook and draw through once you have 4 half-done double crochets
US TERMS used
ch – Chain
sc – single crochet
4 double crochet together – work a double crochet to BEFORE the Last pull through leaving the last loop on the hook 4 TIMES, yarn over, and pull through ALL LOOPS to finish.
Overall View of the Leggy Frog Pattern
To start the frog we will start at the Head with a chain, working AROUND this chain, and then create the Bumpy Eyes in the second round.
We will then continue in sc for some rounds, Adding the ARMS, and PADS (fingers)by chaining and slip stitching back along the chain lengths.
joining back to the body with continuing in single crochet and repeating for the second arm, Continue Sc for the BODY of the Frog, and Repeating the steps for the Arms.
Special NOTES for ARMS and Frogs LEGS:
Because you are working in the round the Seam will jump 1 st across each round so the best and easiest way to find where to make the arms and LEGS for the Frog is to fold the piece in HALF and mark both sides equally apart! And work your chains into these stitches
What you will need to crochet the Leggy FROG
You will need
Yarn (your choice)
Hook (compatible with yarn weight, check the label of the yarn to see what hook they suggest)
Fiber Stuffing
Safety eyes.
I have included ideas for yarn and hook sizes and how they worked out for me.
I have used a 6.00mm hook and Aran weight yarn, (the Leggy Frog measured – length of BODY = 6 inches, and 3.25 inches across)
I would use a 4.5mm hook if I was making this to sell in ARAN weight. 5.5 inches Height 3 inches WIDE
USE a 5.5mm hook if using blanket plushie yarn (when making the eyes in PLUSHIE YARN you may find it easier to crochet 3DcTog instead of the 4!)
Notes: I would use a stitch marker (I prefer to use a length of alternate color yarn, to ensure you keep track of the beginning and ends of Rounds)
Chain 11 to start.
Round 1: Working into the 2nd chain from your hook, Sc into each chain across to the Last st, work 2Sc into the LAST st, swivel your work 180 Degrees, and Sc into the back of the 9 chains back along the opposite side of the chain. (20sts in total – 10sts each side) Do Not join continue working in the round
Place a stitch marker HERE and move at the completion of every round
Round 2:work 4DCtog, sc into the next 7 sts, Work 4DCtog, sc in each stitch to the end of the round. (AT this point ensure the EYES are set apart and look EVEN, I did find i shifted 1 stitch for the Aran weight to look symetrical)
Round 3 to Round 6: Sc into each st around. (20sts)

Chain 3, slip st back along this new chain, into the 2nd, and 3rd chain THEN slip st back into the SAME stitch as the FIRST PAD (3rd Pad Made),

sc into the NEXT 9 sts, and REPEAT from * to * for the second arm, sc into the remaining stitches to finish this round.
When working Round 8 , make sure you jump over the arm you made by pushing it to the FRONT of your work to make the sc into the SAME STITCH where you /made/joined the arms.
Round 8: sc into each stitch around (20sts)
Round 9 to Round 16: sc into each stitch around (20sts) (I position the Eyes into place HERE)

Start making the FIRST LEG HERE
Sc into the FIRST 4 sts of the round and Repeat as per ARMS instructions, HOWEVER instead of single crochet into the next stitch of the body to join ARM, SLIP STITCH and join BOTH sides of BODY, and slip stitch along until you are at the last stitch BEFORE the bottom corner Center Stitch. Make 1 more LEG, and when finished Leg
FASTEN OFF. Weave in and hide the ends
