As a basketball player who spends a lot of time sweating, it only makes sense that USC star Juju Watkins would partner with leading deodorant brand Degree. Watkins has considered Degree deodorant a must-have on game day for most of her career so the partnership felt like a full-circle moment. "I've been using Degree for so long and, as an athlete, [deodorant] is such an important part of what we do—we’re constantly sweating," she says. "It gives us that sense of safety. It helps alleviate any insecurity when it comes to sweating so I'm super excited to partner with the brand, especially since March Madness is coming up.”
Watkin's go-to product? Degree’s new Whole Body Deodorant, the first line created for both men and women that’s under $10 (and available at Walmart). Offering up to 72 hours of odor protection, it's a true staple for Watkins on and off the court. "I do my best to stay as fresh as possible," she says. "I can [spray it] wherever I need to and then just get going."
Being the beauty-minded player she is, Watkins continues to make savvy moves in the industry. In addition to Degree, the 19-year-old also works with hair care brand, Mielle, and makeup giant, NYX. The latter marking thefirstprofessional makeup endorsement deal for a female college basketball player.
With so much involvement in the beauty world, it's safe to say Watkins is a pro at rattling off product recommendations. Ahead, she shares her simple and affordable body care routine, products she uses to perfect her iconic slicked-back bun, and the one thing she always has to do to her skin right after a game.
Her Body Care Routine
First, she starts her nightly body care routine with . "You know what’s in it and it smells good," she says. The simple, organic, and affordable staple she loves to use as a body moisturizer is a classic: Coconut oil. More specifically, she sources her coconut oil straight from Trader Joe's.
The Products She Has to Use on Game Day
Although Watkins doesn’t wear much makeup on game days, she does, however, love a good brow pencil and gel like the NYX Cosmetics Brow Glue. "[My brows] stay in place even with sweat, which I appreciate," Watkins says. "I don’t have to worry about them during the game." Other than that, she always has a tube of Aquaphor’s Lip Repair on hand.
How She Perfects Her Slicked-Back Bun for Game Days
Watkins is known for always having an on-point slicked-back bun—a look that's slightly hard to perfect unless you know her secret weapon. "I just use Mielle Organics Rosemary Mint Strengthening Edge Gel," she explains with a jar handy sitting on the counter during our interview. "It just takes time [to create the bun]. You have to be willing to trust the process."
Her Skincare Routine After a Game
Lately, Watkins has been trying different cleanser options to see what works for her, but using one is an absolute must after a game to keep her skin clear. As for the rest of her routine, she keeps it super minimal by moisturizing with dermatologist-loved brand La Roche-Posay’s Toleraine Double Repair Face Moisturizer.
Her Favorite Fragrance
Off the court, she loves a little luxury. Her all-time favorite fragrance has a cult following: Baccarat Rouge 540, a rich, ambery scent with notes of saffron, jasmine, ambergris, cedar, and oakmoss.
How Her Approach to Beauty Has Evolved As an Athlete
Watkins loves and appreciates simplicity in her beauty routine. However, she admits that her approach to beauty is always changing and growing. "Over the years, I've gotten more in touch with my feminine side," she says. I'm starting to learn more things I like and [just evolving] maturity-wise. I'm figuring out my style, too—it's definitely evolving."
